Photographing the Mornington Peninsula
The Mornington Peninsula is one of Victoria's most versatile event regions, and it's where the coast and the vines sit side by side. From Cape Schanck and the Sorrento foreshore to Port Phillip Estate, Point Leo Estate, and the Red Hill wineries, we know the venues, the tides, and the best light on each stretch of coast.
Few regions give you this much variety within a short drive. Cliff-top lookouts, sheltered bay beaches, rolling vineyard rows, and intimate cellar doors — all reachable in minutes. That means a portrait session can move from coastal drama to soft vineyard green in a single afternoon without losing time.

Where we shoot, and why each spot works
Cape Schanck
Dramatic basalt cliffs, crashing surf, and the historic lighthouse. Raw coastal backdrops unlike anywhere else in Victoria. We shoot in the hour after sunrise or before sunset to tame the contrast.
Sorrento Long Pier
The pier and foreshore give classic Port Phillip Bay imagery — calm water, jetty reflections, and golden light over the bay. Tide times matter here: low tide exposes sand flats for wide storytelling frames.
Port Phillip Estate
A sculptural architectural showpiece among the vines. Sweeping bay views from the terrace, modern lines, and shaded portico areas for group portraits. One of the region's most photographed venues.
Point Leo Estate
Vineyard rows, rolling lawns, and a renowned sculpture park all in one property. The outdoor art gives striking, gallery-like portrait frames you can't get anywhere else on the Peninsula.
Arthur's Seat
The highest point on the Peninsula with panoramic bay views and forested slopes. Sunrise sessions here are magical — mist over the water and soft directional light through the trees.
Stumpy Gully Vineyard
A relaxed, family-run vineyard with open rows and rustic cellar-door charm. Warm afternoon light rakes through the vines, giving classic leading-line portraits without the crowds.
Our Approach to Peninsula Events
Coastal light is gorgeous but unforgiving. Open beaches and cliff tops mean full sun with nowhere to hide, so we actively seek shade for daytime shots — it gives us balanced, even lighting that's flattering to faces. Nobody wants to squint into the wind through their wedding photos.
For any beach or foreshore location, tide times are the first thing we check. Low tide opens up sand flats, reflections, and wide storytelling frames; high tide can put water right at the dunes. We plan the portrait window around the tide as carefully as we plan it around the sun.
Golden hour over the water is the Peninsula's signature. We track the specific sunset time and direction for your event date so we can sneak you out for romantic portraits as the light glows across Port Phillip Bay or Western Port. The colours are soft, subtle, and far more flattering than midday sun.
Four seasons in a day is a Peninsula cliché because it's true. Sea breeze, sudden showers, and shifting cloud are normal. We keep an emergency kit on hand with umbrellas and weather backups. If the sky opens up, we shift to sheltered terraces, cellars, or nearby covered spots without losing the day.
And beyond the technical side: if guests are physically uncomfortable, it shows in their micro-expressions. We make sure sunscreen, shade options, and a wind plan are accessible. Coastal comfort isn't a luxury — it's a photography decision. That's what we call Ethereal Light.

Two very different looks — here's how we approach each
Beach & Coastal
We plan around the tide times first — low tide gives sand flats, reflections, and breathing room; high tide compresses the usable space.
Shoot in the golden hour after 6pm (summer to 8:30pm). Midday sun on open sand is harsh — we chase shade under piers, cliffs, or umbrellas.
Bring a wind plan: sea breeze whips hair and dresses. We carry clips, and pick sheltered coves when the breeze is up. Barefoot and relaxed reads beautifully.
Vineyard & Estate
Vineyard rows are best in late afternoon when light rakes horizontally through the vines — classic leading-line portraits.
Estate gardens and cellars give shade and weather backup. Sculpture parks and terraces add architectural frames you won't get at the beach.
More structured and elegant than the coast. We use the rows, hedges, and stonework for composed, editorial-style shots with clean geometry.
